John Cooper Clarke

I saw this guy just now...... today..... behind me.... on the escalator to get out of the airside section of Atlanta Airport........ and this mad line of poetry flashed in my head........ FOR A MAN WITH THE FU MANCHU MOUSTACHE... REVENGE IS NOT ENOUGH! ....... Its completely unfair of me to identify this man with this poem..... but it just happened in a flash inside my head....... my brother used to love the crazed poetry of John Cooper Clarke..... the punk poet........ the Bard of Salford...... Cooper Clark was a weird dude to watch on stage........ bone thin and manic in a static way..... heroin does weird stuff to you......... his poetry was very very occaisonally telling and moving but was almost always simultaneously comic and horrific and totally full of swearing and profanity........ my brother loved this performance poetry and could quote whole screeds of Johnny Clarke stuff....... I surprised myself by being able to suddenly recite bits of it even now...... having not given this mad poetry a moments thought in the last 10 or 15 years.

Here is the whole written poem Beasley street http://www.cyberspike.com/clarke/beasley.html

Here he is doin 'Chicken Town' on You tube........er..... this has some swearing........er......it would be more correct to say there is some small amount of other stuff in this swearing : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGWhjojt5dw
