I was born in Birmingham UK......... Today I was in Birmingham Alabama....... Sometimes when we were kids on holiday...... me and Mick my brother would say....... 'we are from Birmingham'....... peoples faces would fall...... Birmingham UK back then was a bit like a really struggling version of Detroit......... not the trendiest city with mass unemployment and facing the closure of its car industry.......... so we would then say : "Yeah Birmingham........ Birmingham Alabama -!!."........ hehehehe....... Anyway finally I got to go there today 20 years later.... as it were........ It's a pretty small place no where near as big as Birmingham UK........ but it was an interesting city with great people and a lot of history...... quite industrial like its UK counterpart....... You know it was actually pretty similar to Birmingham UK....... I felt quite at home....... er....... and certainly it was no more glam than Birmingham UK....... it just seemed that it would be........ viewed from the West Midlands of our youth....... hehehehe.......... Hey Paul I stayed in the Sheraton in Birmingham........ but it wasn't on New Street......
