I often shoot like this from taxis......... I love doing it....... although it can be frustrating....... you of course look like an obsessive maniac...... although I think you look even nuttier attempting the really speedy pan from a high speed train....... yeah in the yellow cab its only the driver to see...... those guys never worry about it....... unless they think it shows them.......especially their face............ then it can get more tricky..... but generally the drivers are cool.
