Haydn said: 'did you hear about those two children on Staten Island ?'...... I said I had........ I said it was depressing....... We spoke about other stuff facing people still affected by Super Storm Sandy......... later on I saw a little discussion on facebook about the death of the two children ........ It was true I had heard that the children had died ......... Now I read that they were swept from their mothers arms as she clutched them in the rising flood as the storm raged ......... I had not heard the mother had made a desperate bid to save her children as the water flooded her home.......... she got in her car....... but the vehicle was overwhelmed by water........ she apparently clutched her children and struggled to the nearest home? ........ but again apparently the home owner did not let her in ? ......... and the water swept the children from her arms......... I had not heard any of this....... I knew children had died....... but for them to have died in these desperate circumstances ........ To literally have been swept from their mothers arms at the shut and barred door to safety........ Sure I was sad before ....... but I was devastated to read these terrible details...............

The Mayor is right to have cancelled the New York Marathon....... There is no way the Marathon could start in Staten Island when only days before people had suffered these terrible circumstances........ and when they are still suffering.......... Waiting for power, fuel, food, shelter and clothing ........

I feel like an idiot having left New York almost immediately........ I was only there a few hours during this emergency........ I am in Ohio now ......... to photograph Mitt Romney and President Obama in this battleground State........ still it feels wrong to have left my adopted city during these terrible days............
