I have been watching a bit of the Olympics on TV ....... kinda weird not to be in London for it....... but hey........ nice to see the Russian-Ukrainian former Soviet gymnast Larissa Latynina who was the holder of the record number of Olympic medals cheering for the US swimmer Michael Phelps as he first drew with, then beat her record, she seemed genuinely delighted as she sat with his parents then celebrated his incredible achievement.
Back at the start ..... The British opening ceremony was kinda crazed........... bit off the wall......... sort of individual with room for individualism ........ different from the Chinese opening ceremony that had been so impressive four years back ........ that was so incredibly stage managed and such an impressive display of choreography .......... but actually in the end really the fitting ceremony for a totalitarian State ......... The Chinese artist and dissident Ai WeiWei compared the UK's London efforts favorably to the Chinese efforts in Beijing........ http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2012/jul/28/olympic-opening-ceremony-ai-weiwei-review as always exposing himself to enoroumous risk.............
Matt tells me people are voting in State Elections today in Georgia ............. I photographed all these mad signs when I was down in Atlanta the other day............ sometimes its good to have a bit of muddle and choice ............ even if it has its massive inefficiencies....... as Winston Churchhill said : "democracy is the worst form of government except for all the others that have been tried"
