In Britain things go on as ever.......... today I shot this........... people jamming in to tube trains at Piccadilly Circus........ nothing changes.

Oh yeah and today there is yet another total moral panic about "The Press"...........

British people and their M.P's (Political Representatives) are in full cry against their media and journalism ....... it's amazing and depressing to me.

MP's are calling for yet another public enquiry into the roll and ethic's of the press.

I know its not a popular thing to say........ especially today.......... but I feel I have to say........ I am generally impressed by the British Press .........

British people enjoy some of the most muscular and effective........ some of the most worthy........... also some of the most thoroughly entertaining media..........

Other countries have worthy......... some countries only have entertaining at a trivial level ......... Britain has all this........... but it also has a range of highly effective journalistic media financed by different methods and presenting on all sorts of platforms...............

Sure sometimes they terribly over step the mark......... but the zealousness of some of the Tabloids in pursuing their stories can be a good thing....... I'm convinced it keeps corruption out of Britain........ out of National and local government and business ......... media especially tabloid media in Britain is its own power-base......... it really is a health check on the power of government and business............

I was not really worried about the focus on getting celebrity stories ........ sure not the proudest moments of the British press........ but celebrities employ PR people to get them on the cover of magazines and newspapers........ they want those newspapers to run their PR messages........ when those papers get interested in the celeb and want to run more about their lives........ I find it hard to sympathize with the stars that don\'t want that bit to run...... only the PR ....... I don't want to read only PR...... I'm more interested in reality .

To get that reality ....... the tabloids have used underhand methods......... thats wrong.

To get the reality of the hurt inside the family of a murdered girl......... well even I think that is not just wrong but totally disgraceful and totally illegal ............

Its right to be outraged that more upset and suffering has been caused to Millie Dowler's family than any outrage over celebrities ......... its right to be totally outraged that in the their pursuit of information NoW were prepared to risk messing with potential evidence the police may have needed......... its totally outrageous.........

But lets not kill off press freedom and with it a proper open informed society. Strong independent newspapers and news organizations remain a serious protection for ordinary people from the rich and the powerful.

We need to make sure that in this time of anger and shock that we don't act to completely kill off one of the most important backstops against corruption and totalitarianism....... the right to free speech and a free press.
