I just watched 'Inception' again.......... but this time on Delta Flight #9 London Heathrow to Heartfield Jackson Atlanta............. it still gets to me........ I'm sitting here sort of devastated ......... this is what I wrote last time :
"Just watched that movie 'Inception' ........ now there's a movie to do your brains in.......... Im sitting on Delta Flight 2 from London Heathrow to JFK New York City............. still wide eyed......... just finished watching the movie.
Watching a movie on a darkened flight... I find... can often be more intense than watching the same movie at home or even at the cinema........ I don't know... its something about being in that state of stasis ...... the feeling of suspended animation that comes sometimes when flying long distances ....... Mostly I can't really do that much in the way of useful things on a plane ....... so therefore I can allow myself the luxury of just totally engaging with the movie...... what else am I gonna do?
But 'Inception' is .....for me..... one movie that falls into a dangerous category....... like 'The Time Traveler's Wife''....... the kind of movie that totally does your head in...... especially on a plane...... probably only if you are me admittedly .......... but i find it kind of talks to me too much...........
A while ago I reluctantly selected 'The Time Traveler's Wife' on a transatlantic flight ...... it sounded kind of dull...... but on watching it I found it anything but....... it was amazing....... totally unexpected ........ I watched it and it totally did my head in....... the way the Time Traveller cannot control his time traveling....... one minute he is happily at home the next he is suddenly transported instantly to a different often alien, hostile even terrifying place ....... he can't control it ..... it just happens........... the movie chronicles the effect on him........ and his wife, friends and family.............
Although obviously i am not a time traveller ......... I am so often zapping about........ really zapping........ and although I do kind of love it........ it has a peculiar effect on your head ...... and relationships ........... and there definitely are downsides to constantly rolling ...... and that movie highlights some of the total downsides.............
Inception............ is in that same category......... where the movie jumps from place to place through it's dream sequencing............ The lead character is working intensely to complete the mission....... but is at the same time having an active conflict with the ghosts of his past......... he has an incredibly intense relationship with the memory of a loved one. ........ Whose death he blames himself for........... so he has a horrifying manifestation of his guilt at always leaving chasing him............. and a horrifying relationship with the guilt of another's suicide......
Yeah....... this is not a good movie for any photojournalists with residual post traumatic stress disorder.......... mixed with the guilt of always leaving friends and family ........ leaving so that you can be jumping constantly into the different far off scenarios to complete the mission........... constantly rolling to changing destinations ......... but in active mental conflict with wreckage of the past....... and the guilt of your roll in it............ er............?
Yeah it kind of talks to me too much...............
There's no getting away from it......... I think if you are me ........ or pretty like me sitting in the dark on a flight ......... this movie...... totally does your head in and leaves you kind of devastated .......... but hey having said that......... even I can say...... its a hell of a good movie.......... "

PS............ The picture above I made at the Path Train station at the World Trade Center in Manhattan. It kind of captures for me the person in the urban landscape.......... maybe the dreamer in the dream surrounded by the projections............. maybe the Winston Smith guy........... the only one in opposition........ somehow breaking with the pack....... as if he might be uncomfortable conforming..............
