Funny....... Canadians are much more like Brits than Americans........ well not in all ways.......... but in a couple of drastic ways that affect me........... in America a reportage photographer can normally photograph without a lot of problems ......... in Britain the people in the street or bars are often a lot more aggressive towards photographers than Americans ......... the classic thing is the hostile question " Did you take a photo of my girl friend?" with tons of implied threat .......... You know I've never ever heard that in America ........ I hear it all the time in Britain.......... and I heard it a lot tonight in Toronto......... I find it a little depressing........ one idiot bashed my camera with a bottle of beer tipping beer all over it......... Did you take a photo of my girlfriend? he said threateningly........ I was depressed for him....... for her......... for me...... for my camera ....... luckily the beer didn't appear to really damage the camera or my face ....... but Im pretty sure that guy is gonna be depressingly drunk, aggressive and threatening on many occasion's for a good while to come and will always be threatening to photographers.
Clearly not everyone in Canada was grim like him ..... but sadly there were a fair few...... a very small but seriously problematic minority ......... almost as bad as a lot of Brits ......... but of course some people just loved having their photo made............. like Annabelle B here above :-) ......... she loved being in a photo ........ and had a bunch of friends with her...... all of whom were very cool and welcoming.......... I love it when people just enjoy having their picture made........ Spontaneously without a big pile of negotiating .......... Yeah I just love that :-))))
