Senator Edward Kennedy has died......... after a year of fighting a brain tumor. At 77 he was the longest serving Senator having been in the Senate from back in 1962. Back then his brother John F Kennedy was still President. He lived through the tragic assassination of his brother JFK and brother Robert F Kennedy too.

He went on in office himself...... serving for over 40 years after his brothers had been killed ......... Until the end he was still a player....... I was there, as you see in this image, to see him anoint the heir apparent to the dream of the Kennedy's........ the then Candidate Barack Obama .......

The Kennedy endorsement was critical to Barack Obama seeing off Hillary Clinton and then ultimately John McCain to win the Presidency.

I just heard part of the tribute from Harry Reid, Senate Majority Leader: "The liberal lion's mighty roar may now fall silent, but his dream shall never die."
