Amin Yo Baby howzit....... its not surprising you did'nt notice British PM Gordon Brown was in town....... his vist was completely overwhelmed by the Pope's visit.... I was laughing with an editor in London that who ever fixed the PM's trip for the same days as the Pope should be sacked.... he was joking it was probably Gordon himself and not to worry he soon will be!!....... hehehe....... the Pope and Gordon had duelling parties either side of Masschusets Avenue in DC last night at the British Embassy and the Italian Embassy respectively...... Dick Cheyne and other 'A listers' went with the Pope only us Brits were loyally interested in Gordon..... hehehe...... and I am proud to say......I totally ignored the Popes visit in solidarity with Prime Minister Brown........ I heard a couple of other photographers talking about waiting for the Pope mobile....apparently they spent all afternoon listening to a slightly peeving spotter........ "yeah its coming this time..... yeah its coming get ready...... yeah it says..... F...E..D....E... FedEx.??.... no hang on this is not it......" hehehe........ Im glad I wasn't on that !!!!!

Cheers baby Jez XX

PS... Im going to be the official photographer at 'Earth Day' on the Mall here in DC on Sunday but I really am heading for NYC Monday / Tuesday next week...... I gotta get back home to see you guys in Yellow Cab City !!!!!!

where they other journalist next to you? how close have you actually gotten from bush? just curios... amin*

You dropped me this Amin.......I thought thats actually a good question so I put it up on the blog....... hehehe anyway this how I would answer it!

(this refers to yesterdays image)

All of us photographers are at the other end of the walkway this is shot on a 200mm lens...... the PM and the President.... are the same distance from us as the end of the walkway that you see behind them..... they are walking from the Oval office to the podium...... all of us photographers are piled up some kneeling some standing..... some on ladders (normally not this time not as many people as sometimes)....... you hang in your space in very close proximity to all the others messing about telling jokes and chatting...... then the anouncement is made of the begining of proceedings all the photographers look down their lens for another tense 10mins suddenly without further announcement they appear you then have 3 seconds to get as they walk that short walk..... you then dive round the back into the rose garden proper to do the actual press conference..... in the UK photographers are normally on the floor at the front..... in the US at the White house in particular photographers are kept at least 20 to 30 feet back behind a rope giving you the back and one side of the floor.... with written journos and TV correspondents seated directly in front (TV cameras are also behind the ropes)....... it means you must shoot long lens pics....... I took a 400mm f2.8...... you can get away with 200mm...... but 300mm is really better...... 400 is a bit ungainly amongst all the rest of the photographers crowd... you take up too much space.... need a mono pod etc......... but you really need it if they do it inside.......... as you must be right at the back and there is no side views when its held inside.

Cheers Baby Jez XX

This image above is made on a 400mm f2.8 from behind the back row of TV camera men the 400 piles up the perspective...its a little odd...... but I like to try different stuff..... Cheers Jez XX
