One of the great things about having a blog...... friends from way back look you up and send wonderful messages:
Hey there Jez - I've been checking in on your site regularly and look forward to each new instalment. Taxi madness indeed! You capture the dynamism and relentlessness of NY in your work - fantastic! You definitely have a style all your own. Unfortunately I only have a few 'early originals' of your work, most of them featuring me looking very early 80's - a look best buried in the mists of time! Do you remember doing some shots of me posing round Coventry? I still have them as they are the only photos that make me look human hehe. You haven't changed a bit. Still listening to led zep 4, and last I saw sporting a rather dapper hairdo, although I seem to remember you saying you were off for a cut.... Good to see you still on the move and providing an old mate with a glimpse of the high life (not available in the UK). Will keep lookin in... fondest regards, Joolz xxx
Hey Joolz.........I'll have to dig out that Coventry photo shoot and stick one on the blog........ hehehe.......... I remember I shot a fantastic studio portrait of you once....... do you remember that?........anyway.......vvvvvvvlovely to hear from you and thanks for checking out the blog............ its true not much has changed in my life......... Im still sadly obsessed by the art of reportage photography........... and tragically Im back to looking like a total hippy........ its madness cos life is much harder with cops and passport checkers when you have long hair....... I once got a drastic hair cut during the miners strike in Britain....... having short hair and playing Vivaldi in the car.... made all the difference to just sailing through police checkpoints as opposed to spending the day locked in police wagons....... (actually sailing through ...would be an exaggeration if you remember that car/van I owned at the time........ juddering on by might be more apt.)
OK OK ....... Its true......... when Im driving in the middle of the night I sometimes listen to those classic rock stations ......... but I like the Foo Fighters more than Led Zep these days......er.......thats sort of better right?..... sort of...... but not cured.....yeah..yeah .. I know........ Greg M who works with Insight out of New York ....... his step Dad...... is the drummer in 'Bad Company' and previously was with 'Free'....... they are great bands right...... but his Dad?....... you gotta fix your music tastes a little when you like the music played by your friends Dad.......hehehe.............
Well anyway......... Im glad you think it is........ but the life of the photojournalist and reportage artist...... It's not all glamour......... here in (the attached photo) am I proving it........ looking completely wrecked.... hanging today in some Soviet style hotel room in Canada surrounded by the ubiquitous camera bags that are dragged with you at all times on your travels near and far as a photographer type ....... my friend Marc J was watching me pack all this kit away back into the bags in a hotel room in Spain last year while at the same time talking on the phone to my agent Matt about details of a shoot the next day in Atlanta and Marc J said incredulously that it was like the task of Sisyphus who was condemed to rolling a boulder up a hill then watching it roll down then being forced to push it back up again and again...... for eternity...... its not that bad obviously...... but its true...... its not really a job for a grown up........ hehehe
Oh and as you see....... I never did get the hair cut....... but I really am about too this time..... I think I have to go to the White House next week...... and like I said.... its just so much easier to deal with all those Secret Service types and cops if you don't look too much like a hippy....... hehehe
Hope all is well........ love to you and your family!
Cheers Jez XX
