So it was windy enough to knock panes of glass out of the new New York Times building....... but this lift was a lot less high than the last one......... so the wind was not too tricky...... but man.. was it freezing!

PS............. I wrote the above first then Amin was amazed to see a vertical image so I added this:

Amin yo bro........... I thought is he right about that?.......... but nah....... you are only right........ almost....... it is the first image i have shot to be vertical 'for' the blog as it were ........ there are 3 other verticals on there but they were all mega things shot on film in the past for magazines and papers and then hooked out of the library and put on the blog ........ but you are right verticals are pretty rare feature on this blog !

I did shoot some horizontals of this scene but this was kind of crying out for a vertical treatment in my view.

Weirdly I never liked shooting upright vertical images of any description when i first took up photography........ and one of the problems of this when I became a professional was I never got any covers ........ so I had to think very definitely about deliberately shooting upright images......... (and even leaving some space for the masthead and overlaid typography).......... this certainly actually in the end really helped me to get a pile of covers ........ weirdly photo blogging has allowed me to return to type ........ only looking for horizontals ...... which i still prefer to shoot because they can be much more easily (in my view)... be more advanced...... complicated or unusual images ... i find there is more scope and room in horizontal compositions....... maybe its just me? Years back I worked with me old mate Neil Turner he, at the time, preferred shooting verticals (and almost had the opposite problem to me in terms of double page spreads...... we were a good complimentary team hehehe !)............ Does any one else prefer to shoot predominantly horizontals or is it really just me?
