So it was nice to see Tony B on his final tour as PM........ this was not such an up beat press conference as my image suggests........ even in the last 6 months since his last visit........ things are looking worse in Iraq........ but there was the good news from Northern Ireland as part of his legacy....... and upbeat talk of climate change work to come out of the next G8 summit ...but i guess its finally over for Blair...... and Bush is losing his biggest, most eloquent supporter on the world stage so a little more melancholy or at least reflective was bound to be on the cards...... but it had up beat moments too........ here Blair towards the end manages to do his thing and paint the big picture...... try and lift perceptions above the accusation against all politicians of having failed here and wriggled there...... to try and say here I am in the White House Rose Garden as a 'public servant' the elected leader of the UK answerable to all of you (press types)..... and this is my job and this is functioning democracy in action ...... people outside can be heard protesting.........that is their right......and the assembled press have the right to ask tricky even downright rude questions...... which Blair is signaling the British press are doing......... and here is Blair the PM and Bush the President attempting to answer....... this is democracy..... the way of life most people choose if given a choice....... and that he does not regret standing with America after it was attacked to defend this open and free way of life.
Cheers Jez XX
