The Tao is the ultimate creative principle of the universe. All things are unified and connected in the Tao. But the Tao that can be written or captured in language is not the Tao. Taoism, in general tends to emphasize wu-wei (action through non-action), "naturalness", simplicity, spontaneity, and the Three Treasures: compassion, moderation, and humility........ look to the water see how it finds the path of least resistance......

This morning I was photographing in a lecture on Taoism .......... for a minute I almost thought I was at one with the universe.......... the light was streaming in ........ the students sat in rapt attention fresh faced and alert ........ the lecturer was authoratitive but relaxed and engaging and very personable ........... I was drifting but completely accepted and almost ignored ....... the pictures were forming easily........ my task and identity converged to a perfect place of harmony......... for a minute I almost thought I was at one with the universe ........ then I saw out of the corner of my eye Matt had brought me a coffee....... he was waiting outside ....... then I started to want the coffee........ coffee ...... coffee ....... maybe I should be shooting the next scenario....... where is that list ? ....... what about that mail I forgot to bring ? .......... i should have phoned them back ......... coffee....... coffee........... ah yes back to reality.......... :-)))))))))))))

PS.......... This afternoon I made this picture of the crucifix above the alter in the Church of St Gregory the Great at Portsmouth Abbey in Rhode Island. It is part of a piece of art called “The Trinity.” with this crucifix at its heart but has literally miles of wire leading out throughout the church. This amazing edifice was created by Richard Lippold whose work is on permanent display at the Museum of Modern Art. One of the monks told me the artist was a very secular person but immediately wanted to create the work when he entered the church building . Apparently "the golden wires radiating from the crucified Jesus to the ceiling of the nave represent the Holy Spirit reaching out to the four corners of the world. The silver wires descending from the skylight symbolize the Father’s approval of Jesus’ sacrificial death on the cross: ”This is my beloved son in whom I am well-pleased.” "
