Funny thing about being back in Britain a bit more often (after living in the USA vaguely consistantly for 10 years...... well apart from going everywhere else as well obviously ) .............er anyway.......

Funny thing about being back in the UK fairly often now........ is I find my mind jumps back ....... right back ....... I think maybe its cos of the recession and very hard times here too........... I have that sense of deja vu ......... it feels like the old Thatcher days of recession unemployment and austerity.......... it's been making me think about being a kid back in Brum ........ Birmingham my home City........... at the beginning of my photographic life.......

I started to photograph the almost derelict industrial canal network in Birmingham while I was doing my A levels ......... I walked down the canal......... to this place....... Spaghetti Junction......... an intersection of massive roads ...... the M6....... The Aston Expressway .......... and a pile of other big roads........ all meeting with traffic flowing between them on this mass of feeder roads on stilts ......... below it all is the canal and some railway tracks.

I think I shot this in 1983..... the year the band.......' The The ' ........ released the album 'Soul Mining' .......... it was one of my brothers fave albums......... today I also noticed for the first time the ['Manic St Preachers' have released a cover of the track 'This is the Day ' from Soul Mining ........ It does not sound quite right to me yet.......... but it is a good version ........... It feels kinda bitter sweet to look back .......... my brother has been dead a long time now.
