Amazingly today..... The archaic, feudal, religious, monarchy of the absolute King of Saudi Arabia has come around to announcing that women will be able to vote in the next local elections........ well in in four years time that is.

Saudi Arabia is literally the last country on Earth to still be treating women this badly in terms of their right to vote ......... women in the realm will still not be able to drive or travel alone or leave the country without the permission of their husband ........ blah blah blah......... I guess this move by the King is something positive ........ 'A giant step for Saudi women' is how it was being happily trumpeted by a Saudi Princess on the BBC World Service :-) ........ But I can't help thinking really it is a small thing seemingly only coming about to head off any 'Arab Spring' protest activity happening n the oil rich Kingdom ..............

I made this picture watching a muslim woman in NYC last week ....... she was covered very conservatively .......... but at the same time doing her rather glamorous eye make-up .......... kind of neatly straddling two worlds.................... :-))))
