Some of the coverage of anniversary of the 9/11 attack really gets to me ....... sometimes its just coming out of the radio and it passes right over me ....... other times it just strikes me....... takes me right back to the horror......... to the trauma I felt on that day.... even though I was not in NYC...... to the shock and the immense sadness of the day and the week ....... to the terrible loss and grief for the families of the missing........ and back to the months afterwards as it all sank in....... as I looked at the empty sky ...... to the time New York struggled to get through as it balanced respect and remembrance with a return to the necessary get back up...... and try to move forward........ in that time I began the project of photographing the Streets that were renamed to honor the 9/11 heroes. This one in Manhattan was one of the first I photographed ......... renamed to honor Police Lieutenant Manuel Del Valle, Jr who lived here on this street and died that day taking part in the rescue.
