The biggest strike for over 5 years was happening in Britain today....... With all sorts of public sector (national state and local government employees) withdrawing their labour to protest against proposed cuts in their pensions.

The pensions protest well supported, claimed unions, as workers joined picket lines outside schools and public buildings, while the government insisted more people turned up for work than expected.......... I don't know about any of that ...... but there were certainly plenty of people on the march to Parliament today and at the rally afterwards.

It was a well behaved crowd as you might expect of a march of predominantly teachers. ....... But the cops were tooled up anyway.

The teachers seemed very unkeen to be in photographs....... especially odd as they were on a march......... you would think the point of such a march is to generate publicity and press coverage............ none would give their names after I had made their pictures. Some said they feared reprisal......... mostly others just had that extreme reticence about all things photography that I always pick up on in Britain....... and the teachers seem to totally personify it.

Oh well......... I shot plenty of march shots but I kind of ended up liking this shot of a pile of banners best anyway........ so they can all relax ......... hehehehehehehe............

I love the way nothing changes with the SWP...... The Socialist Worker Party....... General Strike now!!!! Is their answer to everything......... :-))

To be honest I am not sure striking this early in their negotiation is a good move for the teaching unions never mind all the others ......... polls show people support their claims to maintain the teachers pensions against cuts. But polls also clearly show people do not support teachers going on strike ......... it must be a bit of a dilemma for them.
