Well there was mega hassle cos the flight out of Atlanta was overbooked......... people were losing it big time......... suddenly they call my name........ I'm getting ready to wave my press cards and insist I cannot be bumped off ........... but there was no need to fear........ they pass me a first class boarding card and say 'thank you for your business sir'............ much to the outrage of people getting bumped .......... I was by far the scruffiest person on the flight....... and they are bumping a pile of suits and upgrading me :-)) .......... if only life was always like this........... hehehehe..........
So I had a nice flight on the flat beds that Delta has up front :-)) ............ landed at Heathrow.......... had a meeting at the airport with one of our clients then rolled into town.......... by then it was getting late...........
Jon Jones the Director of Photography at the Sunday Times Mag had invited me to come to the Sony World Photography Organization Awards........ I just made it into town ....... quickly had a shower put on my glad rags and went straight out............ I was really happy to see my old mate Adam Hinton picked up the advertising award........ there were some really spectacular images in the awards show........... some just stunning.......... you can go and see them on display at Somerset House in London.
I chatted with a couple of guys from Sony........ they were very happy to see I was using the Sony NEX5.......... I told them I like to sing its praises on this blog from time to time ......... they were pretty happy about that too ......... :--)))))))
I made the above picture of mega award winning photojournalist Tom Stoddart through the evenings wine glasses at our table with the NEX5 .......... its a bit of an unfair image....... I'm pretty sure he did not drink them all himself.......... ( most sure...... but not all :-)))))) )
Tom actually made a very moving speech from the stage in tribute to Tim Hetherington and Chris Hondros and people all rose to their feet and clapped to show their appreciation of the lives and work of these two amazing photojournalists........... some of our friends from Getty were not around in London as they had flown out to New York to be at the special memorial service held today in NYC today.
Sony and the World Photography Organization put on a mega event ....... a mega competition........... a fantastic exhibition of the winners and commended and a whole festival of photography.......... all on a mega scale.......... its really worth getting along to see the exhibition at Somerset House at least ......... I'm gonna go back tomorrow to really look at the exhibition......... but also to watch Jon Jones and Tom Stoddart in conversation on stage over on the Embankment at 7-30pm ........ I promised them I wouldn't heckle :-))))))
