Hey Harv here is one for you......... never mind the $ 26,000 Leica bro......... what you want is the Sony NEX5...........

Its the tilting screen harv....... its a total game changer....... I wanted it as soon as I picked it up...... by the time updated models come through with an improved operating system it will be totally magic. Even as it is....... for me it's a total game changer.... I could not wait for the next model....... I just wanted it straight away.

I know its not everyones cup of tea Harv....... but I really like it....... although.......... OK it is a weird looking camera.......... er......... designed for ....... er...... well....... you know......... well ...... amateurs....... with a slightly annoying sort of amateur operating system......... nothing wrong with being amateur let me hasten to add ........ and I think most amateurs would find this system a bit all over the place its not like its really easier for anyone...... this camera is small which is great.......... but partly cos it is so small......... its very hard to operate fast ........... and hard to use all the manual controls which are buried in different click through menu controls........ different from anything I've ever used before.........

You know it does not really feel like a pro camera with ISO, shutter speeds and aperture controls easily accessible........ but hey they are in there when you know where to look :-)) ....... and as it has hardly any buttons and looks very point and shoot........ it has avery different vibe for people seeing it than most of my cameras........ most of my cameras........ pretty well all....... and I have a lot....... look like....... well you know........ pro cameras......... cos basically they are ........ this one does not.......... cos it basically isn't ........ but it does have a 14 mega pixel file and shoots RAW ............ hey not bad thats like a pro camera I hear you say :-)) ....... easily good enough for magazines........... you know that is really pretty good for a 'not pro' camera............

And you know what.......... its very useful to have a very unobtrusive camera from time to time............. I bought this camera to be a camera always in my pocket........... and one that is seriously unobtrusive............

I bought it at B&H in NYC then put it my pocket and went to London........ I fiddled around with it a little on the flight........ then when I took the tube into central London from Heathrow I shot some pictures on the train............ this above is one of them.............

I wanted a camera with a tip up screen....... so you can look down on the image never needing to look at the subject........ so as never to appear to be photographing or even seem to be pointing the camera at the subject.

You know what I found............ this NEX5 worked in this regard way beyond how I had hoped it might ............ By the time I am sitting on the tube train opposite commuters photographing them........ but in such an unobtrusive way that they are so oblivious that they are completely unselfconsciously yawning and what have you ......... you know they are completely relaxed and unaware of the camera........... which is fantastic in reportage photography........... just for capturing real life unposed images.

This chap yawned the way he just always would. I was able to just watch and photograph my fellow passengers including cops and all sorts of people.......... literally with out any upset or drama........... which is amazing in Britain......... hehehehe............

OK its a little tricky to use............ maybe I'll get used to it as it becomes less alien....... and anyway........ you know what........... Already Im am very happy with the little NEX5 from B&H.

Only real problem ........ It shoots RAW but you need photoshop 5 to read the new RAW format............... I only have photoshop CS4.......... so I converted this pic from RAW to a TIFF in PhotoMechanic......... which is a brilliant mega capable program that anyone in photography should have :-))........ then I could put the TIFF into photoshop CS4........ clearly thats not a great arrangement so I need to upgrade my Photoshop........ I will when I have a moment.......... only that has stopped me goin crazy on the blog with little camera.......

Harv was singing the praises on the GF1 which is a mega mighty camera....... lovely thing........ and for general use is like those other fantastic little Lumix's the LX5 ............ some would say better than the NEX5 but for the uses I am describing above......... the actual reasons I bought it........ hey I have a feeling that NEX5 is in a class of it own....... It really is a total game changer :-)))) XXXXXXXXXXX
