I was speaking to my parents over dinner yesterday before rolling back down to London .......... discussing digital stuff......... they are both pretty contemptuous of digital communications......... especially social networking ......... although they have got a little into Skype :-) ....... not such a bad idea with a daughter in Jo'berg and a son in New York :-))) .......... my Mum has even managed to answer her mobile phone while out and about this holiday :-)) ........... I have never known that previously :-)) :-)).......... :-))))
I thought for just a minute my Dad was starting to consider..... in theory at least....... the stated joy of Facebook when I explained how sometimes it can be great :-) .......... but then they both returned to being contemptuous of it.............. :-/:-) :-)) :-))))
Things change........ you can change to adapt to new things......... even I was not in the slightest bit into email when it first started to become important.......... I thought it was entirely for people just sitting at their desks all day........ I was on the road.......... not at my desk......... finally I got some kind of smart brick NEC phone that meant I could answer email with out going back to the office........ then gradually I started to use email.......... previously I would always reply with contempt myself to people getting indignant about whether I had read their email........ " if they want to get bitter they should send an email......... If they want to know what I think ....... they should ring me up " :-))
I was way slow on getting into text messaging too ........ never used it hardly at all till I got an iphone.............. now I love it........ :-))
But hey I was never an early adopter of digital stuff ....... even of digital photography.......... I'm a lot more like my Dad than I normally credit myself.......... hehehehehe................
I was looking at this picture above......... that I made say about 6 years ago in London......... in the 'O Bar' ....I think...... but definitely in Soho.......... of this rather beautiful french girl smoking at the bar.......... I remember shooting it then speaking to her........ today no one smokes inside the bars of London ....... it seemed previously that it would be impossible to make that ban work ....... that attitudes and expectations of what a pub was like and what was permissible would not change........... and that it was just meant to be that when you left a bar your clothing smelled of smoke........ still did in the corner of your bedroom the next day............
But that is all gone now.............. people attitudes and expectations and their habits really have changed...........
My father now has a cell phone after way back saying he never would........ does not exactly use it like most people........ he can ring you but you cannot ring him.........hehehehe......... but hey............. he has a cellphone......... I still think it might be a while before you can find him on facebook hehehehehe....... :-))
