I watched 'Up in the Air' starring George Clooney on todays flight from London Heathrow to Atlanta Hartfield Jackson. It's a great film. My sister had told me that film was the story of my life...... so I thought I should watch it.
She wasn't that far off....... It was a bit of a shocking film to watch if you are me. Especially as the George Clooney character is completely estranged from his sister, so that made me sad. He is always flying for his job attempting to clock up the XX million air miles he is aiming for........he has a pretty peculiar job a lot worse than mine. But there were slightly disturbing similarities between his life on the road and mine....... the way the endless airports and the rental cars and hotels were all filmed, it all felt disturbingly like the way I experience them sometimes......
I definitely know the attraction and feeling of dynamism, the roll that comes with movement and travel ......... an addiction to being on the road...... how you start to feel depressed if you have to stay in one place too long........ but also how sometimes that roll can feel soulless........ he was depicted as using the constant roll to avoid commitment, to stay out of emotional attachment....... hey Im not sure thats me...... and I only don't see my sister that much cos she is in South Africa..... not because I have jettisoned my family for the rock & roll of the road...........
I think I had been to pretty well all the airports that where shown in the movie.......... Including Detroit Wayne County Airport as you see above............ and a whole pile more, the Clooney character appears to only roll inside the US. Come on George there is whole pile more airports out there............... :-))
Cheers Jez XXXXXXXXXX
PS........ Just time for a quick beer with Matt....... but after that I really got to kip......... long day... time change... 9 hour flight blah blah blah.......... :-))
