Hey Jez.... on a different topic... (have copied the front of the Independent and will be carrying it with my cameras)... I just got asked why do B/W pictures often have more impact than colour? (Less/more info surely less/more data?) I didn't have a quick answer (got a few long ones....) but as you are mostly showing us stuff in colour (these days) what are your thoughts Guru?
Steve Marshall
Funnily enough Ive just come from a discussion about truth & (dis)beleif in photography....... organized by Vll and Gotham Media Steve Mayes (ex of Network and a ton of other things now exec Director at Vll) closed the discussion by chucking in to the mix that B&W photography could/should be regarded as an artificial fantasy rather like a digital manipulation...... I almost fell off my chair..... anyway I digress.......
er....... B&W in my view can have more impact because you are stripping away some elements that can complicate the composition........
....... sometimes color is a distraction....... its possible to shoot pictures that depend on it....... but equally some fantastic B&W images would be totally done in by using color in the same image.......
Thats it I have spoken........ hehehe.........
Cheers Jez XXXXXXXXXXXXXX
PS...... I accidentally copied this reply to Steve Marshall into my spiel to introduce this picture........ but then I liked it....... so I left it where it is....... this picture above is a mad mix of color and mess........ the total opposite of a clean classic B&W ......... :-))
